Our Lab

Our Lab is a FDA-registered 3,500 sq. ft processing facility using sophisticated distillation, solvent recovery, and THC remediation methods and systems.  We are compliant with Current Good Manufacturing Processes and are preparing for the certification audit in the Fall of 2021.

Generally, the extraction process comprises six key steps as illustrated in the “Plant to Product” graphic below.  We made a calculated decision to specialize in distillation (Step 6) and avoid the intensive capital and regulatory requirements associated with Steps 1 -5. We pass these savings to our clients and by doing so, we are able to produce concentrated products that exceed customer expectations at the best cost in the distillation space.

FROM PLANT TO PRODUCT

Since Steps 1-5 are avoided, crude oil feedstock is critical to ensure distillate quality standards are met.  Thus, we source crude oil from select suppliers who are able to meet the following quality requirements:

    • USDA certified organic
    • Non-GMO
    • cGMP certified facility
    • Winterized and decarboxylated
    • Compliant THC levels (<0.3% Delta 9 THC)
    • Post-extraction filtration rated 1-5 microns
    • >60% CBD potency
    • >70% total cannabinoids potency
    • Pesticide and metals-free
    • Non-detectable levels of residual solvents
    • Full chain of custody traceability

There are two different ways to go about distillation which vary in cost, technology, and scale—short path and wiped film.

Both options use vapor pressure (vacuum depth) to reach the lowest possible boiling points for our compounds in order to avoid degrading what we’re trying to capture—either way, you’ll end up with a high quality end product.

Short Path Distillation vs Wiped Film Distillation

Short path distillation produces a high quality distillate but is limited in scale. Wiped film distillation is a sophisticated variation of short path that reduces crude oils’ exposure time to heat which can optimize efficiency.

Wiped film distillation is considered the industry-leading method and the approach implemented at Elysian OilWorx.

Wiped Film Offers Economies of Scale

A key advantage of wiped film distillation is the flexibility to operate continuous mode.  Continuous mode operation is suited for high production/scale and larger throughput because crude oil can be fed into the feed vessel continuously without powering down the system during refilling (See Step 1 in the illustration below).
